There will be no calling hours or Funeral for Mr. Joel P. Getman age 68 of Co. Rte 3 LaFargeville. There will be a private graveside service in Brookside Cemetery in Watertown at the family’s convenience. Mr. Getman and his son Duane died in a one car accident on the Middle Road Town of Orleans on Friday evening.

Joel was born May 9th 1941 in Watertown the son of Paul and Lois VanAlstyne Getman. He graduated from LaFargeville Central School in 1959. He married the former Deanna Rienbeck May 12th 1962 in LaFargeville with the Reverend Clifford Sullivan officiating.

He farmed in the LaFargeville area for 23 years and was also an airplane pilot and instructor for 10 years. He retired in May of 1999 as a mechanic from LaFargeville Central School. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying, traveling and especially being with his grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife is a son and his wife Jerry and Julie Scott of Carthage, one daughter and her husband Tracey and David Brown of Hamburg NY, five grandchildren, and one sister and her husband Ella Dawn and Arthur Doherty of Fishers Landing and Florida.

Donations can be made in his name to T.I.E.R.S. or LaFargeville Volunteer Fire Department.
