Elizabeth “Rita” Cheney, 84, formerly of Centennial Apts 1010 Washington St., and 1227 Madison Ave, died Saturday November 14 at Samaritan Keep Home. She was born November 2, 1925, in the Bronx, the daughter of Edward J. and Florence C. Tuite Moore.
She graduated high schools in the Bronx and was employed first with Carstairs Distillers, in the Cardex Dept. and then with Prudential Insurance Co. Mortgage Loan and Real Estate Office, in the Accounting Dept. and as a stenographer.
She married Edward P. Cheney at Our Lady of Mercy Church in the Bronx on February 14, 1953. They resided in Norfolk VA until 1959 and then moved to Saranac Lake, until her husband retired from the US Navy in 1962. They then moved to Watertown. Mr. Cheney died October 28, 1989.
Mrs. Cheney was a communicant, of Holy Family Church, Watertown.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Dennis and Linda, Texas; Thomas and Cynthia, Hawaii, and two Grandchildren.
A brother John Moore and a sister Eilene Griffin died before her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Watertown, Friday November 20th at 11:00 AM with Father Stephen Murray officiating, with burial following at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Calling Hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday November 19 at Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown.
