FOX-28 Race ReportThe past two Saturday nights we have raced at Can-Am Motorsports Park. We had one terrible night and one pretty decent night. For the July 28th race, we tried a different set-up on the FOX 28 car. We had been running okay, yet are constantly trying to find the set-up where the car really wants to go. We tried some changes that weren’t great ideas. We were the fastest car in hot laps, which means absolutely nothing. The car was impossible to drive in the heat race. We had a tough battle to finish last. Prior to the feature we changed as much as possible to get the car back to a more normal set-up. This helped as the car was pretty good in the feature. We started 13th and were moving up through the field when suddenly the motor started skipping. I noticed that the lights on the dash were dimmed. I knew right away that we had an electrical problem. We were hoping that the problem would somehow fix itself but it didn’t. A faulty ignition switch was the culprit. We never like to not finish the race. We had a better night last Saturday night. We missed hot-laps which is not an issue. We didn’t finish well in the heat race. We changed wedge, rear tires and shocks prior to the feature. Amazingly, the car was good in the feature. We started 9th and finished 4th in the 20 lap event which incurred no cautions. According to mylaps.com we were running good lap times towards the end of the race. We really only gave up time in the early laps of the race when we were mixed up racing with other cars for position. We will return to Can-Am this Saturday night with this same set-up as a starting point. There is no sense in inventing a new set-up that doesn’t work. Race time Saturday night is 6:30 PM. |
