The Coach: Fisher Honored by Former Players
Steve Fisher was surrounded by former players Friday night, as the General Brown Lions finished a perfect season with a 61-0 victory over Alexandria.
It was a sweet end to Fisher's 43rd year as coach, made sweeter still by the lines of former players who filed past him.
"He's just all integrity, all the time," said former player and assistant coach Doug Black. "The way you see him at practice, in games, that's the way he is."
Fisher managed to attract a number of players over the years to return as assistant coaches. Former assistant Jim Covey said that has a lot to do with Fisher's sense of morality.
"He teaches you the values and the morals you want all young men to be a part of," Covey said.
"I've been lucky," Fisher said. "People say 'You did this, did that' but I'm the one who's been on the receiving end of a lot of people whom I've become good friends with, who'cve helped me along the way."
