JCC's Outstanding Athletes: Horton & Filiatrault
Sophomore Defender Kyle D. Horton of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) men’s soccer team, and Freshman Forward/Mid-Fielder Teddi L. Filiatrault of the Jefferson women's soccer team, were named JCC co-athletes of the week for the week ending October 25, 2009. Horton's accomplishments on the field during this past season include being a huge part of the Cannoneers defense. His defense only gave up 18 goals in 14 matches, giving JCC the 4th ranked defense in the NJCAA Region III poll. This solid defense led by Horton earned JCC a second place finish in the Mid-State Athletic Conference and a potential bid to the NJCAA Region III Tournament for the first time in 8 years. Horton, a 2008 graduate of Indian River Central School District, is majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences at Jefferson. Horton was also named to the 2009 Mid-State Athletic All Conference Team. Filiatrault’s accomplishments on the field this past week include upon returning this week from a ankle injury, Filiatrault scored the winning goal in the first minute of overtime putting JCC on top of Jamestown and allowing JCC to move on to the regional semi-finals. Filiatrault has 14 points on the board for the season and is the second leading scorer on the team. Filiatrault, a 2008 graduate of Indian River Central School District, is majoring in Childhood Education at Jefferson.
