The Watertown Cyclones bested Gouverneur in a close non-league game, 41-38.

Meanwhile, in Lewis County, the Beaver River volleyball team has always been considered a top contender in the sport.

However, after finishing with a 9-6 record last year, a disappointment for the squad and Coach Gene Sundberg.

Sundberg says that close games and some injuries put the team behind and they weren't able to recover.

In 2009, Beaver River believes it has the talent and the determination to overcome last year's issues and return to the top of their division.
