FOX-28 Race Team Report

Last Saturday night June 16th we returned to Can-Am Motorsports Park.  We arrived late and missed hot laps, which is no big deal.  The only real purpose of hot laps is just to ensure that the engine is running alright.  Sometimes hot laps can give a false sense of how the car will feel later in the night.  Anyway, we qualified 3rd in our heat race.  The car felt good, except we needed more grip.  The track was already polished black and very slick.  I equate this to driving on an ice covered roadway in the wintertime.

We made several adjustments before the feature.  We were certain that the track wasn't going to change.  Sometimes as the sun goes down and the temperature cools, moisture will come back into the track.  This wasn't the case this night.  We made adjustments to the car that we haven't made in several years, all in an attempt to get the car to hook up. Our adjustments didn't work.

We started the feature sixth and immediately fell back.  No need to panic.  We usually let things sort out and then start working our way forward.  On about lap 12 coming out of turn two our FOX 28 car suddenly slowed down the backstretch.  We had cut down a right rear tire.  We pitted quickly for a new tire.

Thanks goes out to a couple of racing friends who came to our rescue during the pit stop.  After looking at the blown tire it appears that we ran over debris on the track.  We started at the back and raced our way back up to about 10th.  On a restart with two laps to go our car got hit from behind going into turn one.  We spun around and fortunately no one hit us.  We rode out the last two laps just to finish the race.  I think we finished 12th.

This was another not-so-great night on the track.  Nonetheless, the kid crew did a great job of helping with the car and all the work that goes along with owning a race car.

We were unable to attend this week's Wednesday night special event at Can-Am.  There is no racing this Saturday night at Can-Am, as this is high school graduation weekend.  We anticipate being back to Can-Am next week.
