Sports Sunday: Wizards Future In Doubt

By WWNY Staff

The fate of summer baseball in Watertown for the 2011 season will be decided when the Watertown City Council meets Monday (tonight) to vote on a new contract with the Watertown Wizards.

The main sticking point in this contract deals with concession sales, with the city wanting to take over beer sales at the games and events taking place at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds, including Disabled Persons Action Organization concerts.

In the past, the Wizards have handled beer sales at these events, with 10 percent of the gross concession sales going to the city.

If the city does take over beer sales, the Wizards say they will be unable to sponsor a number of programs they have helped stay afloat and created over the last several years.
