Sports: Football Refs Needed

Tools

Summer has barely arrived, but we're already thinking ahead to football season.

The semi-pro season is underway, and both Pop Warner and high school football seasons will be here before you know it.

With that in mind, the north country chapter of the Certified Football Officials Association is recruiting new referees.

"Each year, we lose officials to retirement, guys who've been around for a few years," Robert VanCoughnett, one of the leaders of the group, told Mel Busler.

"We're looking for some people who want to come out - guys or gals. We'll train."

Referees work at all levels of the sport, from modified through high school and semi-pro. There's a background check involved.
