Bus Rides Resume For Country View Seniors

Posted: Updated:

The residents of Country View Apartments in Adams just got their ride back.

"You don't know how happy we all are. We really need this and we appreciate having this," said resident Dona Mesler.

It's just a 5 minute bus ride from Country View Apartments to Kinney Drugs and Tops, but for the apartments' residents, having free transportation is huge.

The South Jefferson School District provided them rides for years, but then auditors for South Jeff said the free rides had to stop.

But through a partnership with the Volunteer Transportation Center and a $1,500 donation from Watertown Savings Bank, the district is able to give those rides once again.

"I'm just glad to be doing it again, and glad that somebody stepped up to donate some money." said Donna Taylor.

Taylor is a bus driver for South Jeff and, for the last 4 years, she has volunteered her time to give rides to Country View residents.

"A lot of them don't have family up here, so they have to call for a car or something to come get them," said Taylor.

It was only a couple of months without the bus rides, but some of the seniors say even just that short amount of time was tough.

"It's very tough 'cause a lot of us don't have cars, no transportation, no way to get there," said Mesler.

But now, twice a month, they have their ride again.
