VIDEO: Heuvelton Going to State Title Game; Chance to 3-Peat

The Heuvelton Lady Bulldogs wasted no time clearing a path to its third straight Class D girls basketball state title game Saturday morning.

The Lady Bulldogs took down Moriah 73-46 in the semifinal game played at Hudson Valley Community College.

Senior Paige McCormick led the team once again in scoring, this time with 30 points.

The state title showdown is set for Sunday at 10am against Panama. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Heuvelton played Panama last year in the state title game, beating them 62-60.

If Heuvelton wins Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs will be the third Class D girls basketball team to win three state titles in a row. Tuxedo did it from 1982 to 1984 and Pine Valley from 2003 to 2005.

The Canton Golden Bears boys' basketball team came up short in the state title game against Westhill. In the end, Canton lost 80-62 in Binghamton. This was the first the Golden Bears team had made the state finals.

Correction: Article previously said Heuvelton would be first team to win since Tuxedo did it from 1982 to 1984. It was now been changed above.
