Parade Highlights Last Day of Irish FestPosted: Updated:
For most, it's the highlight of the weekend. The North Country Goes Green Irish Festival Parade. The parade had more to see in it this year and kids thought it was "pretty awesome."
Leading the parade were co-grand marshals Emmett and Liam Jakubowski.
"It was definitely a really cool thing, and I was waiting til today," Emmett said of the experience.
Emmett is in remission from leukemia. His grandparents have been volunteering at the festival for years and after all the family's been through, seeing the boys at the parade was a big deal.
Richard Lawlee, Emmett's Grandfather described it as so, "Well it was a tearjerker actually, both sitting up there. It was a miracle like I said, it was fantastic."
Also front and center were the winners of the Miss Ireland pageant, Casey Hughes and Cailey Burrows. It had been a jam-packed weekend since they won on Friday.
Hughes and Burrows played off each other talking about the parade. "It was so much fun, you really feel like royalty and everybody did so well it was just absolutely amazing, we had so much fun," the two said.
After the parade, the crowd went inside to finish off the festival with a bang. Sunday was family day and organizers said it was the busiest day of the weekend, along with one of the busiest years ever.
"We've had attendance levels this year that were matched by none of the prior years.. the weather Gods were on our side," Sean Hennessey, entertainment director for the North Country Goes Green Irish Festival said.
