Elementary Students Help Watertown Man Have Very Special BirthdayPosted: Updated:
Storm Wood couldn't believe how many cards he got for his 27th birthday.
"It was really exciting it just put a big smile on my face and made my day," Wood said.
183 cards, all from Brownville-Glen Park Elementary School students. Storm had no idea the cards were on their way.
"It's taking a long time to read them all," said Storm.
The cards arrived on Friday, a few days before Storm's birthday which is Monday, April 17. The cards were decorated with logos of his favorite sports teams and inside the cards are words of encouragement.
"Get well messages and staying strong."
Staying strong in dealing with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disorder Storm has that breaks down his muscles. He can no longer get in a wheelchair or leave his house, so for him receiving all of these cards makes a huge difference.
"It makes me feel good, and try to forget things for a minute. It helps a lot," Wood said.
Storm still doesn't know how the students knew it was his birthday, but his guess is from Facebook where he's been counting down the days. However for Storm, the well wishes make this birthday even more special.
