Design Contest Planned For Watertown's Lachenauer Plaza Fountain

Posted: Updated:

Watertown's city council decided to let local artists come up with ideas for replacing the Lachenauer Plaza fountain downtown.

The previous fountain, at the intersection of Arsenal and Court streets, was destroyed by a drunk driver in 2015.

City council members decided Monday night to hold a contest for the best design.

The contest will be organized by the North Country Arts Council.

The deadline is June 1.

City officials were faced with two designs heading into Monday night's meeting.

The choices were to use the original circle motif at a cost of $7,500 or an American flag design for $3,900.
