There were some tense moments in an Ogdensburg neighborhood over the weekend after a World War I era artillery round was found in a home.

City police were called to 407 Mansion Avenue Sunday evening to pick up what was reported to be two fire extinguishers and a cylinder of gun powder.

It turned out to be a “Scovil Model 1907M” 75MM anti-personnel artillery round.

Initially, the 400 block of Mansion Avenue was blocked off and residents in the immediate area were asked to shelter in place at the rear of their residences.

The Ogdensburg Fire Department was called in as precaution and the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit was contacted.

A member of the bomb disposal unit took possession round, which appeared to be live.

Police said the device will be tested and destroyed.
