A high school student at Canton Central School is being investigated after allegedly making a threat on social media.

The school issued a news release Tuesday.

"The student has been removed from school pending further investigation. We understand situations such as this are troubling to our parents, students, and community. We want to ensure you that school administration has, and will continue to take all proper actions required by law and that are in the best interests of our students and our staff," the school said.

The school said it immediately informed the Canton Police Department and turned the matter over to law enforcement.

Officials said no one was harmed or directly threatened by the student.

The school said it's unable to comment further at this time, but "will share updates as appropriate."
