National Guard Helps With Flood Relief In Ogdensburg

Posted: Updated:

The National Guard is in Ogdensburg to help as people deal with ever-rising flood waters on the St. Lawrence River.

Ten troops from the Rochester area were the first to deploy to St. Lawrence County since the flooding began.

They immediately began filling sandbags upon arrival at the New York State Department of Transportation yard in Ogdensburg.

“The rivers aren't going to go down anytime soon. It's a big river and it takes a long time for the levels to go down. So with the weather we're experiencing today, there's a good chance that wind is going to drive some water up onto shore where people may not have been experiencing problems before may start seeing some issues today,” said Michael LeCuyer, director county Emergency Management.

The troops will be in Ogdensburg for two days.
