Lawyer Will Seek St. Lawrence County DA SeatPosted: Updated:
A third candidate is seeking the post of St. Lawrence County District Attorney.
Lawyer James Monroe resigned his post as Canton town justice this week to clear the way for running for the county-wide office.
He is touting the fact he served previously under both a Republican DA and a Democrat.
He promises to right things in an office experiencing multiple controversies and to tackle the heroin epidemic head-on.
“I feel that there is a need in this county at this time for a district attorney that people can have faith in as far as competence and fairness and the fact that justice will be served in the different cases that come to the county court and the local justice courts," he said. “I've seen the increase in the heroin epidemic so I know there's a side that needs treatment and a side that needs prosecution.”
Current DA Mary Rain is not seeking re-election this November.
Monroe is running as a Democrat for St. Lawrence County's top prosecutor as is former Chief Assistant DA David Haggard.
Franklin County Chief Assistant DA Gary Pasqua is running on the Republican ticket.
