Public's Help Needed To Fund Concert In The Park

For almost 30 years, the 4th of July concert in Watertown's Thompson park has brought thousands of people together.

"This is the premier event for the celebration of the Independence Day in northern New York," said Carl McLaughlin, Watertown Rotary Club.

This year, the Watertown Rotary Club is taking on the challenge of organizing the concert, which is set for July 3.

Paying for a stage, an orchestra, and the fireworks finale comes at price - $30,000 to be exact.

McLaughlin says the group has already raised about $16,000 from corporate sponsors, but it still needs more.

"We're now reaching out to the community through a GoFundMe effort and we're gonna keep working this so we have the $30,000," he said.

The plan is to raise $15,000 through the GoFundMe page, which McLaughlin set up. He says he's confident the community will come through.

"We're gonna raise $15,000. Somehow we're going to raise all $30,000, whatever it takes," he said.

If the Rotary Club goes over its goal of $15,000, that money will be used for next year's concert in the park.
