Fire officials say heavy winds fueled a fire that had fully engulfed a large dairy barn by the time it was reported Sunday night.
Officials say the main barn and milk house were destroyed at the Bruce and Robbin Steria farm on Flat Rock Road in the town of Lowville.
The fire was reported around 10 p.m. Some equipment was saved, but several calves died.
Firefighters focused their attack on the free-stall portion of the barn, which they managed to save.
A firefighter hurt his ankle and was treated at Lewis County General Hospital.
The cause is under investigation.
