In the town of Lyme, crews are working to protect South Shore Road on Point Peninsula.
The town highway department is placing stones to prevent erosion.
Highway Superintendent Pat Weston says there are places where the water had crept right up to the blacktop.
Weston says they had to reallocate $10,000 in the town's budget to pay for the stone.
It's money that was meant to be used on other roadways, but was shifted to prevent damage to South Shore Road.
The work will likely continue through next week.
