Sports Wrap: Empire Football League & City Golf TitlePosted: Updated:
The Watertown Red & Black's former semipro football league is down to two teams.
In an emergency meeting Saturday, the Empire Football League voted to grant Watertown, Syracuse and Sussex a one-year leave of absence.
The Red & Black moved to the Northeastern Football Alliance, where they are currently 3-0.
In a news release the EFL says its two remaining teams, the Seaway Valley Venom and the Glens Falls Greenjackets will meet in the championship game at the end of the season.
The team with the highest percentage of wins gets to host the title match.
So far the Venom have only for games on their schedule: one home game with Glens Galls and three road games against Glens Falls, Carthage, and the Westside Spartans.
We're less than a week away from the beginning of the 2017 Watertown Men's City Golf Championship.
This year it'll be at the Ives Hill Country Club.
Qualifying is on Saturday with match play kicking off Sunday.
The tournament runs through the following week with the semifinals on Saturday and the 36-hole match play final on Sunday.
