Historian: French Set Events In Motion For American Revolution
A historian at Cape Vincent's French Festival explains France's role in settling North America.
Jeff Heller wrote a fictional book called "A False Dawn," based on the real British invasion of Montreal in 1740.
Heller says the French fur trade and battles with England led to the Revolutionary War.
"Their successes and their failures had a lot to do with what happened next in American history," he said. "They set the stage for the American Revolution, even without intending to. The French didn't know they were doing it, but they did."
The 49th annual French Festival wrapped up Sunday with an arts and crafts sale.
