CAPC Celebration Draws Awareness To Free Lunch Program

CAPC Celebration Draws Awareness To Free Lunch Program

Posted: Updated:

The Community Action Planning Council has a mission: make sure kids get a nutritious meal for free.

They hosted a celebration for the program on Wednesday.

The CAPC provides a healthy lunch to kids 18 and younger all summer long at 30 locations across Jefferson County.

The council organizes a special event every year in collaboration with Flower Memorial Library to spread awareness about the program and to celebrate its success.

"Not only are they getting a nutritious meal, but they're interacting, they're getting physical activity, they're getting socialization, so it's all of that that makes a child successful and ready to go back to school," said CAPC family center director Mary Mathewson.

The program is expected to serve 900 lunches across the county this year.

It runs through August.
