Meet JCC's New President: Dr. Ty StonePosted: Updated:
Dr. Ty Stone has been at Jefferson Community College for a little more than a week now and she's been taking that time getting to know the campus.
"I have covered a lot of ground in the almost 2 weeks I've been here," Stone said. "I've met lots and lots and lots of people and I also do what I called pop-ups around the campus."
Stone comes from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, where she was the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives. She said she thinks she was chosen for the job because of her commitment to the community. And this new community is something stone is excited to be a part of.
"This community has just been so welcoming. People stop and talk to you. I'm one of those people that will stop and talk to people in the grocery store and they'll talk back," Stone said. "There's not a lot of communities that happens in."
Dr. Stone is a U.S. Air Force veteran and has held top management positions at other colleges and the YWCA. As for Stone's vision for JCC in the coming years.
"I'm still working through that. In my first few months I really want to get to know the school, the community, the staff the facility and our students," Stone said. "Most importantly our students and from that I'm looking to host meetings with those groups and come up with we can all stand behind as a vision, a collective vision for this institution."
