The Nominations for the 69th Annual Emmy Awards were announced today. More and more nominations come from non-Broadcast inventory; cable, pay cable and streaming channels. The day of broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox) gathering the majority of nominations are long gone. Of course the days of huge audiences for these networks, is also gone. The on demand audiences have created a marketplace for narrative television that constantly generates new programs and new programming. As a result of this, the Emmys are finally spreading the wealth, and in particular this year there are a lot of freshman entries. Once again HBO dominates the nominations with a whopping 110 followed by Netflix with 91 and NBC, a distant third with 60 nominations. Good for NBC, they need the love.
The Emmys air right here on CBS on September 17th at 8pm.
