2 Dems, 1 Rep Set To Run For SLC DA

Many eyes are on the district attorney's race in St. Lawrence County.

The current DA, Mary Rain isn't running -- and it looks as if Democrats will have a primary.

James Monroe and David Haggard both submitted petitions to run on the Democratic line by Thursday's deadline.

That sets up a September 12 primary. The winner will face off against Republican Gary Pasqua.

Reforming the DA's office after Rain's controversial tenure will be front and center in the Democratic primary campaign.

“One way I plan on helping and earning and returning the respect for law to St. Lawrence County and the district attorney's office is to make competent hires, to find the best possible attorneys," Monroe said.

“Restoring the confidence of the people of St. Lawrence County is the number-one priority of this district attorney's office going forward,” said Haggard.

Haggard has also submitted petitions to run on the Working Families line.

In addition to running as the GOP choice, Pasqua will run on the Conservative and Independence lines.
