Saranac Lake Woman Joins Race To Defeat Stefanik

Posted: Updated:

A fourth Democrat has joined the ranks of people vying to unseat north country Congresswomen Elise Stefanik.

Emily Martz tossed her hat in the ring earlier this week.

The Saranac Lake woman joins three others seeking the Democratic nod: Tedra Cobb of St. Lawrence County, Patrick Nelson of Saratoga County, and Katie Wilson of Essex County.

"I'm running for Congress because I have the economic development skills we need to set this region on a better path," she said in a statement posted to Twitter.

"A path to create family-sustaining jobs that can keep our kids here, to protect our water and soil, and to make sure everyone has access to affordable, quality healthcare," the Twitter statement continues.

Martz is director of operations and finance for the Saranac Lake-based Adirondack North Country Association, also known as ANCA.

Her profile on ANCA's website says she has nine years' experience teaching "at the university level" and worked 12 years before that in the financial services sector.
