Starbuck Arena Is Back - At Least In Name

Posted: Updated:

The home of P&M Construction and the Watertown Area Boxing Club has a rich heritage and now it has a historic name to match.

The building at Starbuck Avenue and Henry Street in Watertown is owned P&M Construction and is now once again called Starbuck Arena.

Starbuck Arena was a hotbed for boxing in the '30s through the '50s.

Ray Robinson became Sugar Ray one night while he was boxing there as an amateur.

That rich history and the fact it also houses the Watertown Area Boxing Club are good reasons to bring the name back.

"One thing we wanted to do instead of just having an industrial park, we wanted to bring it back to the community," P&M owner Brian Herron said.

"Just to have our boxing club here is just a dream come true," the boxing club's Johnny Pepe said. "It's just a fit, it fits perfect and we're glad to be home."

The name change echoes the rich history of the building on Starbuck.
