Report: Replacing All Watertown Sidewalks Would Take 100+ Years

Posted: Updated:

How long would it take to replace all the sidewalks in the city of Watertown?

At the current rate, the answer is more than 100 years.

That's according to a report by City Engineer Justin Wood.

He wants some discussion of speeding up the schedule of sidewalk replacement, Whether by getting property owners to do it, getting more city staff or hiring contractors.

"If we really want to be improving the overall conditions of sidewalks in the city, then were going to have to commit more resources to it," he said.

His report says the city has 130 miles of sidewalks and the current sidewalk program is replacing about one mile of that per year.
