There was a sound defeat for the incumbent supervisor in the town of Canton.

Republican David Button lost to Democrat Mary Ann Ashley by a vote of 1,600 to 518.

Button has been at the center of controversy in recent months.

He came under fire for a money shuffle tied to his pay as well as a decision he made to pay more for health insurance.

In Massena, long-time town supervisor Joe Gray lost to Steven O'Shaugnessy, the Democratic challenger, 67 to 33 percent.

In Ogdensburg, one incumbent and two newcomers were voted onto city council.

Incumbent Democrat Daniel Scamperle led with nearly 1,300 votes. He was followed by Republican Shawn Shaver and Democrat Nichole Kennedy.
