Drop Your Change In A Bucket For Children's CharitiesPosted: Updated:
More than $130,000 raised during last year's Stewart's Shops Holiday Match helped north country charities and the campaign is on pace to raise even more money this year.
After over 30 years, Stewart's customers are well aware of what the buckets are that show up in the stores this time of year,
"They already know about what holiday match is and they are more than willing to donate.," said Crystal Hinson, who's shift supervisor at the Stewart's Shop on Washington Street in Watertown,
"They ask us where the bucket is if they don't see it," she said.
Stewart's matches every penny that's donated.
After the store matched the money in the buckets last year, a record over $1.85 million was given to charities that benefit children.
Organizations in Jefferson County received over $64,000, $45,000 to places in St. Lawrence County, and $22,000 to Lewis County.
Over 110 north country organizations benefited from last year's program, including Hospice, Trisomy21 Foundation, and the Canton Free Library.
This year, The Holiday Match kicked off on Thanksgiving Day and Stewart's representatives say the collections are on pace to be better than 2016.
"Already over $100,000 since Thanksgiving and that's just donations from customers," Hinson said.
The jars will be out until Christmas, and charities can sign up to receive money until January 31.
