Arthritis Stats, Tap Water & Cigar Risks

Posted: Updated:

Arthritis may affect a much higher percentage of American adults than people think.

Researchers from Boston University say current estimates do not take into account the patient's joint symptoms.

The study found when that information is included, the estimated number of Americans with arthritis jumps 68 percent higher than previously reported.

Drinking Tap Water

Children who do not drink tap water -- which typically contains fluoride -- are much more likely to have tooth decay.

That's according to a study from the University of North Carolina.

But the study also found children and adolescents who did drink water were more likely to have elevated levels of lead in their blood.

Risks Of Smoking Cigars

Cigars may be just as harmful and addictive as cigarettes.

Researchers from Penn State analyzed small or filtered cigars and found the level of nicotine in the smoke is similar to -- or greater than -- cigarette smoke.
