A 52 year old former Carthage woman was allegedly murdered in Florida.

Lori (Cratsenberg) Farney, a 1983 graduate of Carthage High School, died Monday night, according to officials in Orlando.

Her son, 27 year old Adam Farney, is charged with first-degree murder in his mother's death.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to 14103 Rensselaer Road in Orlando late Monday night.

Officials said Adam Farney had attacked his mother.

According to officials, his 23 year old sister, Autumn Farney, confronted him and he stabbed her.

Autumn was taken to the hospital and officials said she's expected to recover.

Detectives tried to interview Adam Farney after the attacks, but officials said he declined to speak with them.

"We really don't know what precipitated this argument because his sister never really heard what started the confrontation. She just went out and found him standing over her deceased mom," said Jane Watrel, spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

Adam Farney was also charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of his sister.

"He had been involuntarily committed for some mental health evaluations sometime earlier," said Watrel.

Officials said Adam Farney has no criminal record in Florida.

Orlando news station WKMG reports Orange County sheriff's deputies were called to Lori Farney's home five times in the past six months. Police say they are at a loss to establish any motive for the killing.
