Dying Inmate Released From Jail

Posted: Updated:

The jail inmate who is dying of cancer and wasn't allowed to go home to die was released from incarceration Tuesday night.

Cindy Pratt, the wife of inmate Vincent Pratt, said a judge signed the order to release him from a state prison hospital in Rome.

Acting St. Lawrence County Court Judge Derek Champagne signed the order late Tuesday afternoon.

Cindy Pratt said she and her husband returned to their Ogdensburg home about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

She tells 7 News he is resting comfortably now and that it will take about a day to arrange for medical care.

"I'm very excited that he's home and very exhausted," she said Wednesday morning.

Vincent Pratt landed in St. Lawrence County jail after he violated probation, which he was on for weapons and drug charges.

He was transferred to Rome after he became ill.

He was due to be released in July, but wasn't expected to live that long.
