Dexter: Robert J. Charland, 77  formerly of Norfolk, passed away on December 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown. Friends and family may be received on Friday December 8, 2017 from 3:00-6:00 pm at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday December 9, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Raymond’s Church. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery.

Robert was born on August 28, 1940 in Cornwall, Ontario, the son of Augustine and Edna (Dupuis) Charland. He attended Sacred Heart School and later Sunmount in Plattsburgh. He married Beatrice Kitts on September 28, 1981. She predeceased him July 21, 2007. Robert worked for Charland Bros. Gas Station and later at the Norfolk Paper Mill. He then was a guard at the New York Power Dam for two years, followed by Alcoa from 1967-1999. Robert loved to drive, and he also drove for many businesses in the North Country, Seaway Ambulance from 1989-2007, Lucky Taxi Company for a couple of years, and St. Lawrence County in 2003-2012. He loved to take trips to the casino and watch wrestling, but his favorite shows to watch were westerns, especially anything with John Wayne.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, Robert J. Kitts of Oswego, NY; Randy S. and Jean Kitts of Hastings, NY; Darlene and husband David Price of Sims, NC and Robin and husband Michael Perritt of Dexter, NY: 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a brother, Joseph and wife Virginia Charland of Norfolk, a sister in-law, Jean Charland of Massena and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother Donald Joseph and a son Robert Charland Jr.
