A Lowville woman is dead following a weather-related accident in Lewis County early Thursday morning.

Killed was Meghan E. Mathys, 37, of East State Street, Lowville.

State police said Mathys was headed south on Route 12 in the Town of Martinsburg when she drifted into the other lane, and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Heather Seller, 41, of Lyons Falls. That caused the car Mathys was driving to spin into the path of a utility vehicle driven by Benjamin Russell, 28, of Old Forge. Russell's truck hit the Mathys car broadside.

Mathys was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was reported at 5:30 AM, and troopers said snowy weather apparently contributed to the accident.

Russell reported back pain, and was taken to Lewis County General Hospital.

No tickets were issued.
