Massena - Frank N. Catanzarite, 94, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the St. Regis Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family.
Friends and family may be received on December 27, 2017 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on December 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, Massena. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
Frank was born on December 25, 1922 in Massena, the son of Antonio and Anna (Jermano) Catanzarite who both emigrated from Plati Italy in early 1900’s for a better life for themselves and their family. Frank graduated from Massena High School in 1940 and was a combat veteran serving in the US Army Aircorp. Major Frank Catanzarite was a bombardier on B24 Liberator, part of the allies’ forces liberating Italy from Fascist and Nazi forces. He was stationed a few hundred miles from Plati Italy, hometown of his parents.
Frank retired in 1983 from NYS Power Authority. He married Florence Locey on May 6, 1950 and they celebrated nearly 60 years together. She later passed away in 2010. Frank enjoyed golf with his family and childhood friends, was an avid NY Rangers fan and enjoyed the time he spent with his family. He was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church.
Frank is survived by his children, Thomas and June of Prescott of AZ, Susan Catanzarite of Massena, Meg and Blane Goodspeed of Massena, Mark and Pam Catanzarite of Massena; six grandchildren, Tim Catanzarite of AZ, Tony Kerr of Fishkill, NY, Brittany French Murtagh and Jennifer Goodspeed Goolden, both of Massena NY, Jason Goodspeed of West Chazy, NY and Adam Catanzarite of Ballston Spa, NY; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Hurley of Massena.
He was predeceased by a sister Phoebe Treers, two brothers, John Alfred in infancy and John Catanzarite; a sister, Mary Catanzarite.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Frank’s memory may be made to the Massena Meals on Wheels or the Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the care of Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Online condolences may be shared with the family to www.PhillipsMemorial.com
