Places hit by lake effect snow could see another 2 to 3 feet by the time it's over.
That would bring storm totals for those areas to 4 to 6 feet.
There's a lake effect snow warning in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday for Jefferson and Lewis counties.
There's a travel advisory posted in Lewis County.
Some places have closed or delayed because of the weather.
The heavy band could fluctuate north and south, but it's expected to mainly stay over the southern parts of both counties and the northern part of Oswego County.
In the meantime, it will be cold and breezy.
There's a wind chill advisory for southern St. Lawrence County and the Adirondacks from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Wind chills could dip to 15 to 25 degrees below zero.
It will be cold everywhere else, too. Highs for Tuesday will be in the teens at best.
Overnight lows for the next several days will be in the single or double digits below zero with daytime highs struggling to get above zero.
