The Christmas spirit strikes again — the Ogdensburg Salvation Army reaches it Red Kettle fundraising goal.
A week ago the Red Kettle Drive was coming up short. There was still $22,000 that needed to be raised by Saturday.
But the holiday spirit moved people and about $11,000 was plunked into kettles and checks for about the same amount came into headquarters.
“Well, we had a lot of donations come in,” advisory board chair Gary Premo said. “Some of our kettles were doing very very well. Over $500 in the really good kettles.”
If the Salvation Army's biggest fundraiser of the year hadn't come through, programs could have been cut.
