Massena - Richard Dean Charleston, of Churchill Ave, passed away, after his second battle with cancer on December 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born April 5, 1953 in Norfolk, VA, to Duane Vernon and Violet Catherine (McCray) Charleston. He moved to Massena, NY with his family in 1960 and graduated from Massena Central School in 1971. Richard later attended SUNY Cobleskill. He went to work at ALCOA in 1971, working there for 16 years. Rick then went to work at the New York Power Authority as a Maintenance Mechanic in 1987 later retiring in May 2015.
He married Cecilia “Cici” Martel on January 10, 1987 in Massena, NY. Richard was a member of the IBEW Local 2032, Massena. He was a proud 30-plus year member of Moosehead Outing Club in Colton, NY.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Cici; a son, Jacy Charleston of Norfolk, NY; a daughter and son-n-law, Ayla and Justin Coller of Norfolk, NY; grandchildren, Jessalyn, Hunter and Dekker Coller. He is also survived by sisters, Cheeta (Barry) Lazore-Dietlein of Brasher Falls, NY, Cindy (Kaelin) Harper-Baxter of Winthrop, NY and a brother, Dwight (Janet) Charleston of Fairfax, SC. He was predeceased by his parents.
There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St. East Syracuse, NY, 13057, ATT: Cancer Research.
