Mildred A. “Mim” Higgins, age 87 of Three Mile Point Road, Chaumont, passed away Wednesday December 27, 2017 at her home. She was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Mim was born December 11, 1930 in Watertown, the daughter of Benjamin and Mildred Harris Countryman. She graduated from Lyme Central School.
She married Harry Hubbard June 25, 1949 and that marriage ended in divorce. On December 20, 1969 she married Lloyd Higgins who passed away in 2016.
Mim worked as a cook at Lees’ Restaurant on Three Mile Bay, Sleepy Hollow in Cape Vincent, Mariner Rest. In Chaumont, and she and Lloyd owned and operated the Town Tavern in Three Mile Bay for several years.
She was a member of the Bayview Club, Three Mile Bay Methodist Church where she supplied pies and chicken dinners for many years. She loved gardening with her son Jamie Hubbard. Family gatherings were always at Mim’s home and included the “Breakfast Club” on Tuesdays with her brothers and sisters. She also was a caregiver looking after her parents and siblings.
Surviving are four children and their spouses: Wendy and Shawn Hutcheon of Chaumont, Greg and Rose Hubbard o Three Mile Bay and Kevin and Sylvia Hubbard of Depauville. She has step-children including Stephen and Debbie Higgins of Dexter, Debbie and Mike Rogers of Clayton, David and Shelly Higgins of Cape Vincent. She has a brother Keith Countryman of Chaumont, 7 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd, a son Jaime in 2015, sisters: Lois Aubertine, Jean Denney, Mavis Wiley and a brother Arlington “Jake” Countryman.
Per Mims wishes; there will be no calling hours or funeral services. She will be cremated and buried in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Vincent.
