Ship Aground In Seaway

Posted: Updated:

A ship was aground in the St. Lawrence Seaway Thursday morning after "losing propulsion" late Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The "Pacific Huron," a 623-foot bulk carrier vessel, was aground between Fisher's Landing and Thousand island Park.

The ship is out of the way, and other ships continue to pass, according to Operations Specialist 1st Class William Reyes, U.S. Coast Guard, Sector Buffalo.

The ship  hasn't spilled any fuel and is not in distress. It's not clear why it lost its ability to operate, but inspectors were on their way to the ship Thursday.

No injuries were reported.

The ship went around between 9 and 10 PM Wednesday.

Seaway officials say the Antigua and Barbuda flagged vessel is loaded with soybeans and is about 1,000 feet outside of the shipping channel
