Friday: New Ogdensburg City Council Members Sworn In

Posted: Updated:

Three members of the Ogdensburg city council were sworn in Friday, flipping the majority on the council from Republican to Democrat.

Two of the three sworn in Friday - Democrat Nichole Kennedy and Republican Shawn Shaver - are new to the council.

Democrats will now hold a 4-3 majority on the council.

“One of the other bigger issues we have is making our city more business friendly," Kennedy said Friday. "I think a lot of our issues can be solved with opening up the great gateway of this city we have."

"And I hope with the new members that we can all get some positive things going and change things around," Shaver told 7 News Friday.

Regardless of which party holds the majority, the city faces significant financial issues and council members will likely face hard decisions once the state's Financial Restructuring Board starts making recommendations.
