McLeod's Forecast: Cold Air Making a ReturnPosted: Updated:
The National Weather Service has issued
A WIND CHILL WARNING for St. Lawrence County from Sunday at 12:00 am until Monday at 12:00 pm.
A WIND CHILL WARNING for Jefferson and Lewis Counties from Sunday at 1:00 am until Monday 10:00 am.
Wind chill values will get as low as 40 below Zero. These wind chill values are dangerous and can cause frostbite and hypothermia. If you do have to go outside be sure to dress warm, especially your hands, feet, and head. Pets also should be kept inside. Road conditions will also be slick with temperatures being in the 20s below zero and road treatments being ineffective. Water pipes are also at risk of breaking at these temperatures if they are not insulated. You will want to keep water at a slow trickle to prevent them from breaking.
A passing cold front brings cold temperatures back. The Tug Hill will be much colder seeing temperatures in the mid 20s below zero, while everyone else is in the mid to upper teens below zero. We are looking dry with partly cloudy skies, and with light and variable winds at least our temperatures will not have that extra bite of a wind chill.
We will be waking up to mostly clear skies. Winds will be light and temperatures will be in the mid teens below zero for everyone except the Tug Hill with their temperatures being in the upper teens below zero. It's definitely a cold start to the day.
Thin clouds make way for more sunshine and “warmer” temperatures. I'm using warm very liberally here because temperatures will be around zero toward the lakeshore and 0 to 5 below zero toward the Adirondacks.
New Year Eve:
Things get much colder. Temperatures will be in the mid teens below zero and will bottom out in the mid 20's below zero overnight. Winds will also pick up from the west northwest at 5-10 mph which will make wind chill values near 40 below zero. This will be a night where you will want to have all of your festivities inside and bundle up if you have to go outside.
Outlook on the Week:
The week starts off cold and ends cold with a bit of a bump in temperatures mid-week.
