Tugs Work To Free Ship Stuck In Locks

Posted: Updated:

A viewer sent us this photo of a bulk cargo vessel stuck in Snell Lock near Massena.

In the photo, tugs are trying to pull the vessel free.

Officials with the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, which operates the lock, identify the vessel as the Federal Biscay.

It's a Marshall Island-flag vessel carrying soybeans.

Seaway officials say the ship isn't damaged, but stuck because of heavy ice buildup on the lock wall.

The Federal Biscay is blocking four other ships from leaving the Seaway, which officials are trying to close for the winter.
