A threat at a Virginia high school was felt 600 miles away in Massena.
That's because a photo of five rifles and a threat on Snapchat Sunday night before was directed to @MHS. It turns out that's Monticello High School in Virginia.
But parents and students at Massena High School thought it could be their school.
Massena police tracked it down Sunday night and posted on Facebook that it was not a threat against Massena. School officials did the same via e-mail.
A police officer patrolled Massena High Monday morning.
“I was very pleased that so many people were contacting us, because when you see something, you really do need to say something,” said Pat Brady, superintendent of the Massena School District.
Police in Virginia determined the Snapchat post was a hoax and detained a 14 year old. Schools in Wisconsin and New Jersey had to offer parents assurances similar to those in Massena.
