Organizers are canceling a fundraising ice fishing derby because of bad weather that's expected this weekend.

Joe Parker organizes the Black Lake Challenge. He says the event draws 500 to 1,000 anglers from throughout the Northeast.

The event -- now in its fifth year -- raises money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Forecasters are predicting freezing rain and from 6 to 12 inches of snow Friday night and Saturday. The derby was originally scheduled for Saturday.

Parker, who owns Fish Creek Bait & Tackle,  said the event is being rescheduled for January 20.

He says he's concerned for the safety of the people who need to travel to get to Black Lake.

Parker says he's not concerned about warm weather Thursday and Friday causing too much ice to melt, because the lake has about 15 inches as of Thursday morning.

He says the main concerns are the snow and freezing rain making driving hazardous.

Call Parker at 315-323-6842 if you need more information.
