Ice Jam Floods Homes In North Lawrence

Posted: Updated:

An ice jam brought icy flood waters into yards and homes in North Lawrence Friday.

This is what it looked like at a home on West Cotter Road.

An ice jam more than 100 yards long on the Deer River is what caused it. North Lawrence firefighters and Brasher town highway workers helped sandbag this home.

Homeowners said they could hear the ice jamming up in the Deer River.

“I started hearing a rumbling noise and thought it was the wind because the wind was blowing, when I see the ice was heaving. It was a good 10, 15 feet heaves of ice coming up,” said Timothy Irish, North Lawrence homeowner.

There was another ice jam just downriver from this one.
