Saturday Sports: Frontier League Wrestling Champs in Adams

A huge boys non league basketball match up in Lowville Saturday as the Red Raiders hosted the Canton Golden Bears, a team that came just 1 win shy of winning the State Class B Championship last season. Canton went on to beat Lowville 67-52

In Philadelphia, another Frontier League - N.A.C. meeting as Indian River hosted Potsdam. Indian River beat Potsdam 72-28

Girls non-league basketball from Philadelphia had Indian River hosting Rome Free Academy. Paige Leonard with 33 points as Indian River beat R.F.A. 61-38.

Another big event locally taking place at South Jeff in Adams as the Frontier League Wrestling Championships were being held. Individual titles on the line in all weight classes and it would be an exciting day. Up first, the 145 pound match between Andrew Hoffman of South Lewis and Aiden Poe of Indian River. Poe won in overtime.

The 160 pound match featured Brent Millard of Lowville against Anthony Rasmussen of South Jefferson. Rasmussen won a 3-0 decision. At 182 pounds, Fombo Azah of Carthage faced Michael Lind of Indian River. Lind took the win in a 5-0 decision.

The 152 pound matchup had Dempsey Carroll of Copenhagen against Gabe Lynch of Indian River. Carroll took the win. At 220 pounds, Joe Benedict of South Jefferson/Sandy Creek faced Gage Amrolf of South Lewis. Benedict had a quick pin for the win.

We go to 170 pounds, Jeremy Hoening of Indian River against Isiah Roes of Lowville. Roes won by a pin. At 99 pounds, Andrew Walseman of Beaver River took on Alex Booth of Indian River. Booth took home the win.

We go to 132 pounds, Spencer Lavin of Watertown beats Wyatt Mullin of Beaver River. At 106 pounds, Micah Roes of Lowville faced Parker Ashley of Indian River. Roes won with an 18-2 technical fall. At 126 pounds, Corey O'Conner of General Brown against Brandon Carpenter of South Lewis. O'Conner won with a 5-1 decision.

We move to 195 pounds, Kyler Martin of Indian River against Patric Koelmel of General Brown. Martin took the win. At 285 pounds, Cody Zubrzycki of Copenhagen pinned Josh Greenwood of Beaver River.

At 138 pounds, Kyle Green of South Lewis against Conner Carroll of Copenhagen. Green won. At 113 pounds, Matt Garland of South Jefferson/Sandy Creek beat Riley Green of Carthage with a technical foul. And at 120 pounds, Logan Patterson of Indian River over John Lillie of South Jefferson/Sandy Creek 10-3.

Final Standings: Indian River took the team title with South Jefferson/Sandy Creek placing 2nd and Carthage 3rd.
